We are looking for an early stage career director to lead our revived Young Ensemble, a performance opportunity for young people aged 19 – 25.
In Spring 2025, Southwark Playhouse will be bringing back its Young Ensemble for 19 – 25 year olds. This will be a six-month programme for young performers who have not received any formal training at drama school to stage a production in the Large at Southwark Playhouse Borough.
We are excited to announce that we are making an open call to find directors at an early stage of their careers who have a bold, exciting and inspiring vision for the Company and for a production to be staged by them in the Large at Southwark Playhouse Borough in Summer 2025.
We are looking for new and emerging creatives with the expertise and ability to take the lead on this project, working alongside Southwark Playhouse to bring the project to life. Applicants will have the following experience:

The selected Director will need to agree to approach this work in fulfilment of Southwark Playhouse’s participatory ethos. They will also be required to undertake a DBS check if they have not already done so.
Applicants will be expected to work the equivalent of a day of activity each week during the contracted period, with additional days during tech week/ additional rehearsals as required.
This role will be for one production cycle, with a new Director appointed each year that the Young Ensemble continues.
The total fee will be £6,400.
