There are over 1,500 beaches around the UK and Ireland with plenty of picture-perfect options to choose from. But on the days when the sun does shine this summer, it’s likely some of the nation’s most popular hotspots will be jam-packed with visitors.
However, experts have named some “stunning” options where you can avoid the main crowds of tourists.
Tucked away on the coast of South East Cornwall, near the town of Fowey, is Lantic Bay. This stunningly secluded Bay is a mixture of sand and shingle, looking out to beautiful blue tides.
Experts from Cornwall beaches have gone so far as to say this beach is one of the nation’s beaches most deserving of being called a “hidden gem”.
They said: “The term ‘hidden gem’ is often used to describe some of the more remote beaches in Cornwall, but if there is any one beach that deserves this title it would be Lantic Bay.”
Lantic Bay has also been selected by Tim Alcock from LeaseCar.uk as one of his top recommended beach escapes to avoid the crowds for those planning a coastal staycation or road trip this summer.
He said: “For those planning to stay in the country this summer, there are plenty of stunning hidden beaches around the UK that can tick all the boxes when it comes to peace and relaxation.
“Just a short drive away from the more busy tourist spots lies several secret beaches offering picturesque views of sparkling sea waters and majestic coastlines.
“Some of the more remote locations, such as Lantic Bay in Cornwall, make perfect settings for visitors wanting to explore the country’s more isolated areas.”
The beach is perfect for paddling and picnicking, though is only accessible via the coast path, with some of the route made up of steep, uneven stretches. However, the journey up and down is well worth it.
“In the stunning stretch of coast between Fowey and Polperro lies the beautiful Lantic Bay, known for its near-white sandy beaches and tranquil blue waters,” said Tim.
“It is a quiet outpost because it takes a steep descent down cliffs to get to, but visitors will be greeted with stunning views of crystal clear waters, the countryside and high green cliffs. It’s well worth the amble!”
