Machrihanish Dunes in Scotland has moved to strengthen its management team with the appointment of industry-leading talent Ian Ferguson as Resort Director.
Ferguson began his role at the Argyll resort on July 1 and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of management at one of Scotland’s most sustainable golf developments and its associated businesses – The Royal Hotel, The Ugadale Hotel and Cottages and Machrihanish Dunes Golf Club.
The industry veteran joins Machrihanish Dunes – owned by privately held global lifestyle company Southworth – with close to 30 years’ experience working within the UK’s golf, hospitality and leisure industry. Extremely familiar with leading some of Scotland’s finest golf venues, Ferguson has worked in various roles at Dundonald Links, The Machrie and Loch Lomond Golf Club over the past decade and brings a wealth of expertise to the Machrihanish Dunes team.
“I am delighted to take up the role of Resort Director at Machrihanish Dunes, particularly at such an incredibly exciting time for the business,” Ferguson said. “Machrihanish Dunes is a very special course in a stunning location and with a strong commitment to creating a world-class golf experience while protecting and enhancing the ecological landscape.
“The Kintyre area is benefiting from a growing profile for tourism, and it has much to offer visitors to the area but particularly those looking to play some of the UK’s most stunning links courses. Machrihanish Dunes is perfectly positioned to help the destination flourish and further drive tourism in the area.”
Tommy Southworth, President of Southworth, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Ian Ferguson to our management team at The Village at Machrihanish Dunes. He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of the UK golf and hospitality industry and will be a great addition to the business.”
The Village at Machrihanish Dunes – voted ‘Scotland’s Best Resort Experience’, ‘Best Hotel’ and ‘Best Catering’ by Golf Tourism Scotland – is a world-class seaside resort featuring a UK Top-100 links golf course, an array of quality bespoke accommodation, casual and fine-dining options, a boutique spa, and a host of other resort amenities.
