Sinner advances to the second round, where he will meet former Wimbledon
finalist and compatriot Matteo Berrettini:
“I’m
very happy to be in the second round. I want to thank everyone for the support.
It’s amazing.
“He
played really well, he was serving well, I missed a couple of shots. First
round matches are never easy and to the next round I have to raise my level.
“I
have a day off and then I need to get my rhythm.”
Did
he lose confidence in his footwork?
“This
is a grass court and you cannot control everything. It can be difficult to
recover. I ended the match in a very positive way and hopefully it can help me
in the next round.”
First
tournament as a world number one:
“First
of all it’s a huge privilege and honour to be in that position, and there’s no better place
to play as a world number one.
“It’s an amazing feeling but every match starts
with 0-0 and every opponent wants to win, as I do. All matches are a very high
level, which all of you want to see.”
Thoughts on playing Matteo Berrettini next:
“Tough
match that’s for sure. He played the final here, he knows very well how to play
on this surface. Every day is different and let’s see what’s coming.”
