Hermès announced on Wednesday the opening of its second store in Ginza, Tokyo, on the first floor of the Mitsukoshi retail landmark.
Stepping inside from the mall, visitors are welcomed by a mosaic floor in hues of yellow and pink. The cross-shaped tiling leads into a space draped in rose-toned wavy panels, where a curated selection of perfumes, home accessories, women’s silk, and fashion jewelry are featured.
The back of the store houses the leather and equestrian collections. To the right, the watch and jewellery area, and to the left, a trail leads to two fitting rooms, a lounge and three salons dedicated to women’s and men’s shoes, and ready-to-wear collections.
The space, envisioned by the Parisian architecture agency RDAI, highlights Hermès’ design ethos, while evoking the elegant and vibrant atmosphere of Ginza. Details from the luxury house include Grecques lights, and Faubourg mosaic inlaid on the speckled terrazzo flooring.
The store’s interior palette is characterized by red, pink, taupe, mauve, amber, and yellow, which harmonizes with the warm cedar wood paneling and cherry wood furniture. Walls and enclaves are wrapped in wallpapers and woven fabrics in soft neutral tones, including shades of rust and champagne.
Completing the space are curated pieces from the Émile Hermès collection and photographs from the Hermès Collection of Contemporary Photographs, including an off-kilter composition of a horse’s mane captured by Belgian photographer Harry Gruyaert. To celebrate the store’s opening, French artists Zim and Zou have animated the windows with their artwork.
Earlier this month, Hermès also reopened an expanded store in Hong Kong’s Lee Gardens, in the heart of Causeway Bay.
