League One winners Portsmouth have signed teenage AFC Sudbury midfielder Reuben Swann for an undisclosed fee.
Swann, 18, has signed a two-year deal, external with the option of a third year at Fratton Park.
BBC Sport understands that Swann is expected to be loaned out this coming campaign.
“Reuben’s an exciting young prospect,” Pompey boss John Mousinho told the club website., external
“He’s an all-action central midfielder with a maturity beyond his years, so we’re really looking forward to seeing how he does in pre-season.
“He came down to train with us before Christmas last season. It allowed us to have a close look at him and he really impressed us, while he’s also done well for Sudbury.”
AFC Sudbury play in the seventh tier of English football – the Southern League Premier Central – and after Swann’s move was confirmed the non-league club shared their delight, external at the achievement for their academy.
“All academy staff are delighted for Reuben and this wonderful opportunity that he has secured,” said Sudbury academy manager Craig Power.
“Reuben is extremely level-headed and will take this chance with both hands.”
Portsmouth get their Championship campaign under way when they travel to Elland Road to face Leeds on 10 August.
