Juventus are reportedly willing to offer Italy’s Euro 2024 star Federico Chiesa in exchange for Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood this summer, after the 22-year-old’s successful loan spell in Spain with Getafe.
Chiesa has been one of Italy’s stand-out players in recent years and should they enjoy success at this summer’s Euros, he will be a key figure for Luciano Spalletti’s side.
La Gazzetta dello Sport claim that the Serie A giants are currently unwilling to match United’s asking price for Greenwood and are looking at alternative options to seal a deal, which could include Chiesa heading to Old Trafford.
The 26-year-old’s future has been in doubt since Thiago Motta arrived to replace Massimiliano Allegri, alerting the likes of United and Liverpool to his availability, but he could be deemed a ready-made replacement for Greenwood at United.
After losing out on Michael Olise to Bayern Munich, few right-wingers on the market will be deemed a smarter purchase than Chiesa, who can help facilitate a parting of ways between United and Greenwood that has been a year in the making.
However, Lazio also remain an option in the race for Greenwood and have offered their own swap deal, with United’s asking price in the region of £42million deemed unrealistic.
If Juventus are able to raise the funds they hope to by offloading several unwanted players this summer, they would be more prepared to meet United’s valuation of Greenwood outright.
But their summer sales could drag into late August, when Greenwood may already have agreed to join one of their rivals, forcing Juventus’ hand to find an alternative and offer up Chiesa instead.
Juventus have already shown their willingness to swap players this summer as they close in on a deal for Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, with Enzo Barrenechea and Samuel Iling Jr expected to head to Villa Park as part of negotiations.
But whether Chiesa is willing to engage in talks over his future before Italy’s Euro 2024 campaign comes to an end remains to be seen, though with just 12 months left on his Juventus contract he will already have one eye looking towards his plans beyond 2025.
