Planning a staycation? A city break in England’s greenest metropolis could be exactly the holiday you’re looking for.
A new study by the team at Millets looked at the number of green spaces, the price of public transport and average CO2 emissions to find England’s most eco-friendly city.
According to the results, Bristol is the UK’s greenest city and it’s also one of England’s most walkable destinations.
A Millets’ spokesperson said: “Crowned England’s first cycling city, Bristol supports sustainable travel, offering many bike hire shops and scenic cycling paths, such as the popular Bristol to Bath Railway Path.”
So what is there to do in Bristol?
Castle Park is one of Bristol’s most popular parks and sits between the city’s shopping quarter and the Harbourside. Walkers will enjoy views of the water.
If you’re looking for a walk a little outside of the city centre, head to Clifton Downs, a protected parkland area on the outskirts of Bristol.
Although Bristol’s public transport is generally considered affordable, the city is also one of England’s top walkable destinations.
Tourists can check out the contemporary art galleries at Bristol’s former industrial port, then wander into the city centre to visit the Cathedral.
Clifton Lido is situated just outside the city centre and the beautiful Victorian pool is one of the country’s prettiest al fresco areas for a swim.
Wander across the Clifton Bridge to marvel at Brunel’s design and views across the River Avon.
