UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced an Sh82 million donation to Kenya towards improving infrastructure in the country.

In a press statement on Friday, Sunak said the funds are for planning, prioritisation and implementation of green infrastructure initiatives between the UK, Kenya and the wider G7.

“Focusing on transport projects selected from the Africa Green Industrialisation Initiative (AGII), this innovative partnership will lead to closer cooperation with the Kenyan government on strategic infrastructure and investment and is the first partnership between the G7’s Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment and AGII,” he said.

He further said that the UK is committed to driving a more effective international system that improves lives for people across the globe.

PM Sunak also outlined the importance of supporting countries in delivering their own clean energy transitions and leveraging opportunities presented by AI.

“The green transition and the development of AI are key components of this and the funding announced today will help ensure that these seismic changes happen in a way that works for all,” he said.

The PM was speaking during the G7 summit in Apulia, Italy.

President Ruto who flew to Italy Thursday evening was in attedance.

The summit seeks to provide a platform for high-level discussions on topics of global interest such as nuclear security, food security freedom of navigation and humanitarian issues.

It also seeks to create a common understanding at the highest political level for a comprehensive, just and durable peace in Ukraine based on the UN Charter.

Further, the meeting will initiate a process towards peace by discussing for the first time at the highest political level, a roadmap on how to involve both parties in such a process.
