The Met Office has issued a rare “danger to life” alert as the UK is hit by three-day thunderstorms.
Yellow weather warnings are in place for in five UK regions between 2pm on Sunday and 4am on Monday, with the areas affected including the Scottish regions of Central, Tayside and Fife, Dumfries, Galloway, Lothian and Borders, Highlands and Eilean Siar, and Strathclyde.
Meanwhile, maps show that parts of England have been hit with a 10-hour warning for storms, with homes and businesses at risk of flooding. The areas impacted between 12noon and 10pm today include North West England, Wales, the West Midlands and South West England, while the east of the country is set to remain relatively dry.
