Soon it will be time to plan those summer holidays and head overseas for some sun and relaxation.
But with money still too tight to mention, looking for the perfect getaway that won’t break the bank is getting harder and harder.
But do not fear, as help is at hand thanks to analysts at the travel search engine Kayak.
They have compiled a list of the ten cheapest holiday destinations for British travellers, with Spanish and Italian cities top of the pops.
The analysts added up the average costs of return flights from the UK and a seven-night hotel stay in countries across the continent.
And the results of their diligent research might come as a surprise to some, with one famous city ranked as the best value for money.
Madrid sits top of the rankings, with an average trip cost of £859. Spain’s capital is known for its vibrant culture, beautiful architecture and world-renowned museums.
Running Madrid a close second is Italy’s capital of fashion – Milan. A week’s stay with travel costs comes to £881.
Milan is known for its impressive Cathedral, its art, architecture, fashion, and design.
There is also delicious Northern Italian food, which differs a bit from the Tuscan or Southern Italian fare.
Valencia comes in third, with a trip to the coastal city costing £951. Mediterranean, authentic, and with a rich history, it is becoming one of the most sought-after destinations in Europe.
With 300 days of sunshine a year and an average temperature of 17C, Valencia is a city made for enjoying the outdoor life, especially in autumn.
Porto in Portugal takes fourth place, with an average week-long trip price of £989.
It is known for its old-world architecture, gorgeous painted tiles (called azulejos), museums, port wine cellars, and lots more.
Istanbul in Turkey closes the top five with trips averaging at £1,073. The city has it all: over 2500 years of history, culture, and traditions, amazing landmarks, vibrant nightlife, and breathtaking views.
This transcontinental metropolis is a fast-paced cultural melting pot that should be on everyone’s bucket list.
Rounding out the top 10 are Budapest in Hungary at £1,106, Luqa in Malta at £1,114 , Florence in Italy at £1,151 , Barcelona in Spain at £1,173 and Zakynthos in Greece at £1,181.
