It’s been confirmed the couple will head to Nigeria next month after accepting an invitation from the country’s highest-ranking military official.

According to People magazine, Harry and Meghan will “meet with service members and take part in a variety of cultural activities”, mirroring the itineries during their foreign tours as working royals.

The visit will also highlight the duke’s Invictus Games, which saw Nigerian athletes take part for the first time last year.

At the 2023 event, Harry joked about a rivalry with his wife, who he claimed was backing Nigeria after discovering her heritage.

“Now, I’m not saying we play favourites in our home, but since my wife discovered she’s of Nigerian descent, it’s likely to get a little bit more competitive this year,” he joked during his opening speech in Düsseldorf, Germany.

The Duchess of Sussex revealed on her podcast in 2022 that she had taken a genealogy test and discovered that she was 43 per cent Nigerian.

The royal couple will arrive in Nigeria just days after Harry returns to the UK to attend a special service at St. Paul’s Cathedral in honour of the Invictus Games’ 10th anniversary.

It’s understood Meghan will not be accompanying him to London for the May 8 event.

While next month’s visit is Harry’s second this year, Meghan has not been back to Britain since 2022.
