Spain is the UK’s leading holiday destination but some of the country’s top hotspots, such as Barcelona and Ibiza, can be a little expensive.
Luckily, that’s not the case for the whole of the country and one beautiful Spanish city has been named as one of Europe’s cheapest city breaks.
According to research by the travel experts at Bounce, Cadiz is the cheapest city break in Spain.
The Spanish city was also named as Europe’s eighth cheapest break with a hotel room costing £103 per night on average.
A bottle of wine was particularly cheap in Cadiz coming in at just £3.63 while a draught beer cost just £2.48.
Founded 3,000 years ago by the Phoenicians, Cadiz is one of western Europe’s oldest cities and it’s a gorgeous place to experience the Andalucian lifestyle.
The city’s cathedral is one of its top attractions and it dates back to the 18th century with a museum packed with artefacts.
A tourist ‘permia’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “Magnificence in light hued stone best sums it up.”
‘Wayne M’ wrote: “Amazing cathedral with oodles of history in a great historic city. A must see if you are visiting Cadiz.”
The city’s Central Market is a must-visit if you want to try some local delicacies on your trip to Cadiz.
Stalls sell fresh fish, fruit and vegetables while the market is surrounded by places to eat and drink.
Sample ortiguillas, sea anemones fried in olive oil, or baby squid, if you’re looking to try local treats.
La Victoria beach is one of the city’s best-rated and it’s wide and sandy with plenty of space to spread out.
A little further out of the city, tourists will find Cortadura Beach which has some spectacular sand dunes.
Cadiz’s southern location means it remains warm throughout the spring and autumn while temperatures soar during summer.
