HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team will play in its third tournament of the spring season this week, taking on the elite field at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at the Long Cove Club (par 71, 6,413 yards) in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, from Monday through Wednesday.
Big Blue Nation can watch the tournament on Golf Channel, which will have coverage Monday through Wednesday from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. ET. Fans also are encouraged to follow live scoring here.
“The Darius” tournament field annually rivals the NCAA Championship field.
Seventeen teams make up this iteration of The Darius, including host South Carolina, Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Arizona State, Baylor, Duke, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Texas, UCLA, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.
The field will play a stroke-play standard format.
The Wildcats will tee off in the first round Monday beginning at 10:20 a.m. ET off the tenth tee. They’ll be paired with Duke and Vanderbilt.
Kentucky’s lineup includes Marta López Echevarría, Cathryn Brown, Karlie Campbell, Brooke Oberparleiter and Anastasia Hekkonen. UK has used some formation of this lineup in each of its two events this spring.
That fivesome has turned in two of the top three 54-hole team totals overall this season, including a season-best, 12-under at the Paradise Invitational on Feb. 3-4 and the team’s third-best, 13-over at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational on Feb. 18-19.
In each of those tournaments, UK has produced a Southeastern Conference Player of the Week award. Campbell earned a career-best, 5-under-par for a T4 finish at the Paradise Invitational to be crowned SEC Freshman of the Week. Just two weeks later, Brown, who tied Campbell at the Paradise Invitational, followed up with a 4-under for a career-best T3 finish at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational to earn SEC Player of the Week.
Through two events this spring, UK is averaging a 288.2 scoring average.
This week’s tournament is the third of four for the team before competing in the SEC Tournament at the Pelican Golf Club in Tampa, Florida, beginning on April 14 and a hopeful NCAA Regional bid.
The field can expect sunny skies and temperatures in the high-60s on Monday, with a chance of showers on Tuesday and Wednesday.
