Yesterday’s news that Jaxson Robinson will miss the remainder of the season was a tough blow.
Many, like myself, hoped that Robinson would be healthy enough to return for postseason play, so yesterday’s announcement was hard to hear.
Robinson has been a key piece for this Kentucky team all season when he’s been healthy, as the second-leading scorer at 13 points per game.
His presence is definitely missed, particularly on the offensive end. This team can be prone to stretches where they struggle to score, and Robinson is a guy that does a good job of being able to come up with baskets in difficult situations.
Without that piece now, Kentucky needs other players to step up. Kobe Brea, Lamont Butler, Otega Oweh, and others will need to shoulder the responsibility of perimeter scoring.
It’s also tough for Robinson himself. He came back to college for one more season and surely had aspirations of making a run in the NCAA Tournament. It’s sad to see his season come to an end, and we wish him a speedy and successful recovery.
As for the UK Women, they have another major matchup today, as they wrap up the regular season on the road to take on #6 South Carolina.
The Gamecocks enter at 26-3 with a 14-1 mark in SEC play, with the lone conference loss being a 4-point loss at Texas who is also 14-1 in conference play.
Tip-off for today’s game is at 2 p.m. ET. Darren Headrick will have the radio call for UK Sports Network, his eighth straight season as the voice of the Wildcats. His call will be carried on 630 AM WLAP (Lexington) and 840 AM WHAS (Louisville).
Big Blue Nation also can watch the game on ESPN, with Roy Philpott and Carolyn Peck on the call.
