If you’ve always dreamed of seeing the fields of flowers famous for dotting the Netherlands, you can get a similar experience right here in the UK for a much cheaper price.
As spring rolls around, flowers will soon start to blossom, adding a dash of colour to your walks around the UK.
One estate in particular is not to be missed for lovers of flowers.
The Ashridge Estate in Hertfordshire, England, has a stunning display of bluebells, and it’s worth the trip.
You may see some bluebells spring up here and there but to see a whole dense forest filled with the pretty blue flowers is an incredible sight to see.
You can find Ashridge Estate between Watford and Luton, it takes around an hour to get there from London.
The display is set out perfectly so you can walk along the paths without treading on the flowers.
A visitor took to Tripadvisor to speak about their experience at the estate, and said: “It’s a surreal experience walking through the beautiful bluebells.”
Another penned: “What can you say about this stunningly beautiful piece of England, well it is beautiful, great for a lovely walk and if you’re lucky you’ll see a deer or even a herd of them.”
The best time to visit is between early March and late May, when you’ll have the best chances to see the flowers in bloom.
If you’re hoping to take a day trip to the area, you should also stop off at The Bakehouse cafe on the estate.
After your walk, you can enjoy a pastry or a coffee while soaking up the cosy environment the space offers.
The Ashridge Estate is a National Trust property and it is a 5,000 acres area of the Chiltern Hills filled with beech and oak woodlands, commons and chalk downlands.
Its landscapes support a rich variety of wildlife, including carpets of bluebells in spring, rare butterflies in summer and deer in autumn.
