Dobbies garden centre has confirmed a second wave of closures across the UK, with the next shutting tomorrow.
A major retailer has confirmed eight more store closures in a fresh wave of shut downs following 16 locations disappearing. Dobbies garden centre has confirmed a second wave of closures across the UK, with the next shutting tomorrow.
The full list of stores which have closed or are set to close are: Rugby – closed 19 January, Stapleton – closed 19 January, Morpeth – closed 19 January, Havant – closed 19 January, Hare Hatch – closed 31 January and Leicester– closing 14 February.
Other sites shutting incude Northampton – no confirmed closure date – and Aylesbury – no confirmed closure date. Locals have been reacting to the news on social media, with one person saying: “Local Dobbies is closing down & car park has been rammed for a week… got a few bargains for the garden!” Another commented: “Our local Dobbies Garden centre is shutting, there’s a sale on so must get down there and spend my gift voucher.”

Confirming the Northampton closure, a spokesperson for Dobbies Garden Centres, said: “Dobbies Garden Centres confirms that its Northampton store will close. We are engaging directly with colleagues at the store on what the closure will mean for them.
“This follows approval of Dobbies’ restructuring plan in December 2024, which allows the business to focus on returning to sustainable profitability, unlock access to future investment and deliver a strong and well capitalised platform for the business going forward.”
Another said: “Another local Dobbies is closing down. Such a shame. On the upside 50% off today!” Dobbies confirmed at the end of last year that it wanted to negotiate rent reductions at these stores. The garden centre chain has closed 21 stores over the last few months, including 15 larger stores and six smaller Little Dobbies sites.
In a statement that was published in October, after announcing its intention to close stores, a spokesperson said: “Dobbies will operate 60 stores and continue to play a key role in the market, working constructively with stakeholders and suppliers, and having an active and committed role in the communities in which it’s based.”
