The Kentucky Wildcats pulled off a gutsy win over Tennessee on Tuesday. Despite playing without Jaxson Robinson (wrist) while losing Lamont Butler (shoulder) late in the second half, Kentucky was able to finish the game on a 20-6 run to take down a Vols team that’s vying for a 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament.
So, when will Robinson and Butler return?
On Thursday, head coach Mark Pope met with the media to preview Saturday’s game vs. the Texas Longhorns, as well as provide updates on his injured players.
“It was not great,” said Pope of Butler’s injury. “And so we’re still kind of going day by day. We’re trying some different treatments. We’re going to piece it together.”
When asked about Robinson:
“We’re taking information, trying to figure out a course of action. Decisions to be made,” said Pope while later adding, “They’re both complicated situations.”
Pope also made it sound like we won’t see either player for at least a few weeks.
“We could find some clarity on both of them in the next couple of weeks, but we’ll see,” Pope said.
You may recall how Robinson injured his wrist in practice leading up to last Saturday’s win over South Carolina. He ended up playing in the game but appeared to injure said wrist further.
Thankfully, Robinson did not injure it further, according to Pope, so at least there’s that.
All told, Kentucky fans probably shouldn’t get their hopes up on seeing Robinson or Butler for the rest of February. Let’s just hope they’re healthy for March and get to finish off their college basketball careers on the court and not on the bench.
