John Lewis won’t be without a commercial director for long. Following Kathleen Mitchell’s departure from the retailer after three years in the post, a high-profile replacement is waiting in the wings to join in April.
Vikki Kavanagh, former managing director of Net-a-Porter, who also ran the Mr Porter business, has been appointed chief commercial officer at the UK department store group. She will report to executive director Peter Ruis.
Pre-Net-a-Porter, Kavanagh also held senior buying and merchandising roles at department stores including Harvey Nichols, House of Fraser and Fenwick.
Ruis said: “Vikki’s extensive experience and proven leadership in the retail sector make her an invaluable addition to our team. Her strategic vision and commercial acumen will be instrumental as we continue to evolve and enhance our customer offering.”
Kavanagh added: “John Lewis has a unique opportunity to redefine the UK omnichannel retail experience and I’m looking forward to working with the team to deliver an exceptional offer for our customers.”
Mitchell said of her John Lewis departure on LinkedIn: “After an incredible journey… I’ve decided to embark on a new chapter. We made big moves, delivered results, innovated and positioned the business for the future. Huge heartfelt thanks to the outstanding commercial team and wishing every success to the iconic Partnership. Excited to share more about what’s next soon.”
Prior to John Lewis, Mitchell was managing director and brand director at Accessorize. She has also held various senior roles at jewellery brand Stella & Dot and beauty giant L’Oréal.
