Cambridge-based ‘advanced intelligence’ software provider Blackdot Solutions has received a £4.5m round led by Maven Capital Partners.
The funding will be used to scale the development of the company’s investigation software used by governments, law enforcement and corporates.
The bulk of the investment will come from Maven’s Venture Capital Trust (VCT), with additional financing coming from another Maven client fund and Scaleup Group.
Blackdot is looking to grow its headcount as well as increasing the automation and AI end of its software platform Videris following the cash injection.
“This investment marks a pivotal moment for Blackdot. With Maven’s backing, and our strong team, we can accelerate the evolution of Videris, enhancing its automation and AI capabilities while exploring new investigative use cases where we can support our customers,” said Blackdot CEO Stuart Clarke.
These developments will further cement our reputation as a leader in the open source intelligence investigations market. Maven’s expertise and support will also be instrumental as we expand globally, and continue delivering innovative solutions to our blue-chip client base.”
Founded in 2013, Blackdots platform Videris is used by clients to investigate risks and ensure regulatory compliance. The software sifts through publicly available data across the surface, deep and dark web specialising in risk identification and identity verification.
“Blackdot is a business operating at the forefront of a growing market, driven by increasing demand for advanced risk management and compliance tools,” said Maven partner Melanie Gorward.
“With a strong management team, consistent revenue growth, and a blue-chip client base, the business is well-placed to capitalise on global opportunities. We’re excited to support Blackdot’s continued growth as it scales its operations and expands into new markets.”
Blackdot clients include Dankse Bank, Certis Intelligence and Berlin Risk.
