Next month Eurosport will not be available in Britain after more than 35 years.
Warner Bros Discovery is changing where its output is shown so the programming currently on Eurosport will switch to TNT Sports in the UK and Ireland.
This includes the likes of snooker, cycling and tennis will now be shown on TNT Sports from Friday 28 February.
To watch those sports it will cost £30.99 per month.
Currently Eurosport is included in Sky TV and Virgin Media packages at no extra cost while the streaming platform Discovery+ is £6.99 a month.
Those options will cease to exist pushing fans to fork out another costly subscription.
However, Cycling Weekly reported: “Virgin Media customers, for example, can add it to their bundle for an additional £18 a month. Sky TV customers can do the same for an extra £30 a month.
Some content will be aired on the Quest channel for free but live coverage will be very limited.
In 2025 it will include ‘every MotoGP Sprint race, adding to existing live Bennetts British Superbikes coverage, a brand-new weekly cycling show covering all key moments of the season, highlights of the Giro d’Italia and La Vuelta a Espana, plus premiere a range of new sports documentaries,’ as stated by Scott Young, senior vice-president at WBD Sports Europe.
“EE mobile customers can purchase TNT Sports as an add-on for £20 a month.”
The official announcement read: “On 28 February 2025, the Eurosport and TNT Sports brands will be brought together, with all sports content available in one single destination via TNT Sports. This in turn means the discovery+ Standard plan & Eurosport linear channels are closing.”
Young said: “Combining Eurosport and TNT Sports content in the UK and Ireland will enable us to offer a single, premium viewing experience for sports fans.
“This move in the UK and Ireland will also continue to best deliver value for our leagues and federation partners, as we continue our 35 years plus commitment to investment and championing of sport on our screens, which remains a fundamental part of the success of grassroots through to elite.”
Fans across social media are outraged at the change.
One user on X said: “Greed, pure and simple. Fans of every sport treated as cash cows.”
Another person posted: “Getting rid of Eurosport UK is a crazy decision. Why the hell should snooker fans pay £30 a month to subscribe to TNT to watch it?
“Let’s start a campaign to reverse this madness.”
With the cost of living restricting disposable income people are frustrated with the amount of subscriptions needed to enjoy sports and other entertainment.
