There are some places in the world that you are just near enough guaranteed an incredible holiday and the Caribbean is one of those places.
The region full of picturesque islands boasts remarkable cuisine, rich history and of course what are known as some of the world’s most beautiful beaches.
In 2023, the Caribbean welcomed over 23 million travellers from across the world, who jetted off to the island countries to enjoy the renowned sunny holiday experience it has to offer.
However, unlike some of its most popular islands such as The Bahamas, Barbados and Turks and Caicos which offer luxury packages, there is one tiny island that brings something completely different.
Saba is one of the tiniest inhabited islands in the Caribbean with a total area of around five square miles, which is why many people have never heard of it before.
Though it may be small it size, a trip to the pretty island offers something that many other islands in the Caribbean cannot – that’s how unqiue it is.
Malinda Hassell, Director of tourism of the Saba Tourist Bureau describes the island as “totally different from other Caribbean destinations”.
What makes it so different, for a start, is that unlike what many are used to the island does not have the typical white sand beaches you’ll find in the Caribbean, but instead a few rocky coves and a small bit of built up sand saved to enjoy a beach barbecue.
On top of that, instead of all-inclusive holiday resorts the island boast a small number boutique properties. In total there are less than 200 hotel rooms available on the whole island.
Saba’s tagline of “Big Adventure, Small Island” embodies exactly the kind of experience any traveller would have once visiting.
The landscape of the Saba makes it perfect for adventurous activites such as hiking and watersports because the island is essentially a long-dormant volanco sitting above the waves, meaning you are surrounded by phenomenal views, wherever you look.
At the centre of the island you’ll find the volanic peak at its highest point which is a recommended trail for hikers, as you cross a beautiful rainforest along the way.
This small remote island will not only take you away from the crowds that you may often find at other Caribbean destinations but also provides the perfect blend of tranquality and adventure.
