The Kentucky Wildcats got back in the win column on Saturday night as they knocked off the Mississippi State Bulldogs in Starkville.
Now, their attention will turn to likely another top-15 matchup as the Texas A&M Aggies come to Lexington on Tuesday night.
The Aggies roll into town after suffering a tough home loss to Alabama in College Station and will be looking to bounce back and secure a win over the Cats. The main question, however, is will they have to try and do it with Wade Taylor IV?
Taylor missed both of the Aggies games last week with an injury he suffered in a January 4th win over the Texas Longhorns, and it’s not hard to figure out how big of a hit that is to Buzz Williams’ team.
During his time on the floor this year, the All-American guard has been impressive once again this season. Taylor is currently averaging 15.7 points on 39% shooting and 34% from deep. He is also adding right around five rebounds and three assists per game.
Last season, Taylor dropped 31 points, six rebounds, and five assists in the Aggies’ overtime win at home over Kentucky. Then in the SEC Tournament, Taylor went for 32 points, three assists, and two boards as the Aggies cruised past the Cats.
After Saturday’s loss to Alabama, Texas A&M head coach Buzz Williams declined to give an update as to when Taylor could make his return. But because of the SEC injury report, his status for Tuesday could be learned Monday night.
For Kentucky, Mark Pope and his staff have to feel good even if Taylor does take the floor, as Lamont Butler is cementing his status as one of the best perimeter defenders in the conference. However, they also know that Taylor brings a whole new level to a very talented A&M squad, which has other scorers who can get hot.
Going to be a situation to monitor for the BBN heading into Tuesday’s showdown.
