Kentucky plays another basketball game today, but we’re not quite done reminiscing on Mark Pope‘s first victory as head coach of the Wildcats.
Last night, the UK Sports Video team dropped some perfect pregame entertainment. During Kentucky’s 103-62 season-opening win over Wright State from Monday, Pope was Mic’d Up for all of it. The end product is a nine-minute video that takes us inside the locker room. From Pope addressing his players pregame to celebrating afterward, we’re treated to a behind-the-scenes look at all of it.
Among some of my personal highlights? Pope’s huddles, for starters. In one huddle, he’s asking each player what they’re focusing on while on the floor. In another, he’s calling out a play that is executed to perfection for a bucket out of the break. There’s plenty of encouraging coach talk sprinkled throughout, as well.
“What do we do when we miss a three?” Pope asked his team. “We’re gonna shoot the next one! Right?”
But the best part of this entire video is the slow-mo wide shot of Koby Brea‘s no-look three-pointer. Poetry in motion, folks.
Kentucky will be in action again this afternoon when Bucknell comes to Rupp Arena. The Wildcats and Bison tipoff at 4:00 p.m. EST on the SEC Network+.
